Have you ever thought of setting tight deadlines? You need to read this...

One of the most amazing feats in architecture, Neuschwanstein castle, in Germany, took 24 years to be completed.
Dracula castle in Transylvania took nearly a century to complete.
So, how long do you think it will take to complete a skyscraper? Years. And you’ll be right based on skyscrapers that have been built in the past.
But today, Broad Sustainable Building in China will beg to differ. The company built a 57-storey skyscraper, Mini Sky City, that has 800 homes and working space for 4,000 people. In just 19 days. Did I say it is earthquake proof? Yes, it is.

That is not all. This same company built a 15-storey building in 2 days and a 30-storey hotel in 15 days.
You want to do more than you’re currently doing. I want to do more. In fact, everyone wants to do more. But most fail. There are many reasons people fail. And one of them is time.
Tight deadlines 1

Tick tock tick tock. You want to do many things but time is against you, you can’t get enough of it. Time is the enemy, so they say. And whenever you fail at something important just because the time wasn’t enough, you reinforce that belief that time must really be the enemy.
Right now, whether time is your friend or enemy, you have to think about it. And the most important thing you have to realize is that time is a needed friend. But time is not a willing friend. Only through discipline and a good set of habits can you make friend your friend.
Tight deadlines 2

In this post, I want to suggest something that looks counterintuitive when it comes to managing your time. If your worry is that time is never enough, why don’t you play the same game against time? Why don’t you intentionally plan for a task, for less time than it usually takes?
If you think time is running past you, then you need to set tight deadlines. You need to plan for more than you can do daily. Although someone may say you’re setting yourself up for failure, what you will see is the opposite.
Setting tight deadlines will keep you more focused. You will be able to cut out all the frivolity you spend your time on. Do you know that despite people complaining about shortage of time, they still manage to waste their time every day?
Even in workplaces, workers spend 60% or less of their work time actually working productively. If there is a lot of wastage going on with regards to time, can you still say time is the enemy? What are you going to say about your management of it?
Now, you may ask: What if I set a deadline and still fail to achieve what I set out to achieve for the day? You will find out that even at that, you will achieve more than you usually achieve without a deadline.
Tight deadlines 3

Have you noticed that some people always achieve incredible things in record times?
We say they have this ‘habit’. Most times they’re not more special than you in most things. But they’re definitely better than you in utilizing their time and setting bold and tight deadlines. That could be the only thing drawing you back.
If you normally carry out a task in 5 hours, set a deadline of 3 hours next time. You may end up failing to meet that deadline and finish the task in 4 hours. You have still saved one hour compared to your initial output.
According to Parkinson’s law, work contracts to fit the time we give it. In another way, it can be stated as: The amount of time that one has to perform a task is the amount of time it will take to complete the task.
How many times have you completed a task in half the time you usually take just because you have a deadline you must meet? I want to bet many times.
Try it. Play this game against time and stop complaining about lack of time. Because you have 24 hours of it. Just like everyone else. Even people who manage to make incredible achievements regularly.
If you have ever thought of it, don’t just think about it, start setting tight deadlines. Because it could be the key to excellence in that important task.
